Oli

I was born some years ago, which is why I have the age I have. They told me that I was born on a winter night, and that’s why I prefer to wear a near-permanent smile, which caused me some displeasure in my youth.

I wasn’t a young reader, but I owe my first readings to the detergent, as it was because of two bottles of detergent that I got the first two books I ever owned. Some time would pass before someone inspired my grandmother to gift me another book.

Later, I developed over time an interest in reading and when my son was born, I read all the children’s books that I couldn’t read when I was a boy. It was because of one of those books that I became a vacation writer, taking advantage of my vactions to write and travel. It was called The Amazing Adventure of a Very Brave Hominis and it was by an author named Hans Traxler.

Oli telling a story.

I write because I like to invent stories and because I like words, and I do it in Galician because my birthplace is called Galicia; and because my last name is Barreiro, something that I can only explain in Galician; and because it was the language that my grandparents spoke, and my parents and I never understood why they didn’t speak it with me.

Since about 1990, I have participated in publishing projects, not only as an author, but also as a designer of collections, editor, translator and animator. One could say that I’m restless and that I like to do many things, even though I already know that a jack-of-all-trades is a master of none.
